New funding programme from UK-German Connection

We're pleased to launch a new grant for joint activities between partner schools in the UK and Germany. The 'Partnerships in Learning' Fund supports a wide variety of thematic activities designed to help pupils, teachers and schools to learn from each other. The activities should involve a broad range of young people across year and subject groups, with a particular focus on younger year groups.

We have also revised our current grants - have a look at the updated guidelines and application forms for bilateral projects for partner schools in the UK and Germany.

The next deadline for all these grants is 31 May 2014.

Getting future-proof - learning about the world of work

Having the right set of skills is a prerequisite for young people entering the job market, especially in an increasingly international context. This UK-German project is currently equipping 24 pupils with the necessary skills to succeed. Under the themes of small community - big opportunity and ecotourism, pupils from St Columb's College in Northern Ireland and IGS Langenhagen in Hannover are jointly exploring career opportunities and developing relevant skills.

A 3-day work experience placement is a key component of the project which pupils prepare for thoroughly. They first research and speak to employers, before writing CVs and application letters, on which they receive feedback from their peers. Finally, they role-play various workplace scenarios. Pupils then compare the different skills and qualifications required for a UK and German context, as well as the respective business cultures. To round the project off, a special display will communicate their learning to younger pupils and the wider community.
