GPC Group Leaders
Professional development and German immersion. For teachers of German: become a group leader on the German Pupil Courses and accompany a group of 12 pupils to Germany. This is a great opportunity for your professional development, whilst spending two weeks immersed in German language, daily life and culture.
Applications for group leaders for the German Pupil Courses are currently closed. The application process for courses in summer 2020 will open in January 2020.
Group leadership opportunities
Each year, three posts are available for qualified UK teachers with experience of teaching German up to GCSE/S5 (for course option 2) or A-level/S6 (for course option 1) and experience of taking groups of young people abroad, to act as group leaders on the German Pupil Courses.
You will work alongside other teachers at a German school and will stay – where possible – with a German host family. Group leaders receive an honorarium, as well as a contingency fund for course-related expenses.
Take a look at last year's Group Leader blog, which all group leaders contribute to during the courses, find out about previous thematic projects, and have a look at our picture gallery.
Here's some feedback from previous group leaders and former participants.
Reports and feedback from 2019 will be available shortly.
About the courses
There are usually three courses for a group of 12 pupils and one accompanying teacher each. Two courses are for Year 12 (and equivalent) pupils and one course for Year 10 (and equivalent) pupils from the UK.
The courses take place in three different locations in Germany in July and/or August. For this year's dates and locations, please refer to the German Pupil Courses page for pupils.
The courses are designed for enthusiastic and motivated German learners, who would like to get first-hand experience of German life and culture, and improve their German language skills at the same time.
Please refer to the German Pupil Courses pupil information page for further details about the courses and the application procedure for pupils.

The chance to work with inspiring, passionate young people from around the country was amazing, and I will never forget the time we have spent together. Lifelong friendships have been formed, language skills have been increased, and a group of 12 students are heading back into the world to make a real change. I wish them all the very best of success in their futures." Sam (previous GPC Group Leader)
