The group leaders – who they are and their responsibilities

Discover Germany! groups are accompanied by one vetted representative from UK-German Connection and one representative from the German National Tourist Office, as well as a teacher from each participating school. The group leaders act as organisers and are responsible for all practical arrangements of the trip.

A teacher from each participating school accompanies their group of pupils and is responsible for the welfare, care and discipline of their own group of pupils at all times during the trip. All schools are required to sign an agreement, and pupils and parents must complete a code of conduct form prior to the trip which outlines behavioural expectations. Pupils will be sent home at their parent/guardian’s expense if this code of conduct is breeched at any stage.

All group leaders will accompany the pupils to and from Germany and on all cultural activities and excursions as incorporated into the programme. As outlined in our Health & Safety Policy, pupils are required to remain in groups of at least three at all times. Allocated leaders will supervise these groups in crowded places and will carry an emergency pack with contact details and medical information. Each school is responsible for taking out or using an existing school insurance policy for the purpose of the visit.

Please see our Health & Safety Policy for our policy on medical issues and emergencies on our programmes.

Travel and Accommodation

All practical arrangements are put in place by UK-German Connection and the German National Tourist Office, who are responsible for all aspects of the running of the programme. Travel and accommodation (in well-appointed youth hostels or hotels) and the programme of activities are organised by the German National Tourist Office and its partners in Germany. Individual arrangements are not possible.

Please also refer to the guidelines for individual trips for specific guidance on arrangements.

Magical Christmas Trips

The Magical Christmas Trips are run by UK-German Connection, who act as co-ordinators, ensuring that all practical arrangements are in place, and are responsible for all aspects of the running of the programme. The group will be accompanied by two representatives from UK-German Connection, who are vetted and experienced group leaders, as well as a teacher from each participating school. The teachers accompany their group of pupils at all times and are responsible for the welfare and discipline of their own group of pupils at all times during the trip.

Group leaders will accompany the pupils to and from Germany, and on all cultural activities and excursions as incorporated into the programme and carry an emergency pack with contact details and medical information. Travel and Accommodation

UK-German Connection organise all travel and accommodation arrangements. Pupils stay in a school-friendly hostel/hotel. Boys and girls are placed in separate rooms and are briefed on the health & safety procedures in place at the hotel. Pupils and parents must sign a code of conduct form in advance of the course/trip, which outlines behavioural expectations. Pupils will be sent home at their parent/guardian’s expense if this code of conduct is breeched at any stage.
