WWI projects and funding

We are very excited to be able to offer new flexible funding for WWI-related projects for young people in the UK and Germany. Grants between £500 and £5000 are available for both virtual projects and those including mobility, depending on the scale. To find out a little bit more about this new opportunity and download an application form, take a look at the WWI projects page on our website:

Thinking of undertaking a WWI project with your pupils? On our WWI projects page, you can get inspiration for your own classroom activities from the memorial project created by pupils from two schools and a thematic poetry project that took place on one of our German Pupil Courses in Alfeld. Whilst you’re there, why not take a look at the British Council’s resource pack for pupils learning about the Christmas Truce that took place in 1914?

News from the networks

Our new cohort of UK-German Youth Ambassadors met each other at the introductory seminar in London last weekend. The 2014-15 network, consisting of 50 young people from the UK and Germany, planned a range of creative projects with others in the network to enthuse pupils and the wider community for the culture of the other country and to bring other young people together. We are really looking forward to seeing these fantastic projects develop!

The UK-German Bears Project

Image - bears_alex_bus_default.jpg

The Bears project is an exciting way for children learning English at Grundschule to join up for a short-term bilateral project with a primary school in the UK. The bears arrive in the form of real soft toys, and come with a suitcase of easy to use materials including songs, games and quizzes, designed to introduce young pupils to learning some basic English and interesting facts about the UK.

If you are interested in ordering a furry bear and resources for your class, the next date to host a bear is 3 December. To have a look at when you can host a bear in January and beyond, and to sign up for the programme, click here:
