General information about the programme

The FLA/ELA Ambassadors are a bilateral network of language assistants who are working in schools in the UK and Germany. They run small joint projects, activities, events or clubs in order to inspire and motivate young people in their schools for the language and culture of the other country, to enable young people to have direct, meaningful contact with young people in the other country and to make lessons come to life through active involvement in joint projects with their peers.

FLA/ELA Ambassadors run at least one project within their school or in conjunction with other schools in the area. Projects need to be bilateral, run either with a partner Ambassador from the other country, or with an existing partner school, and address themes that are of educational value as well as interesting and relevant for the target group (see project themes below).

Project themes for 2017-18

All projects should relate to one of our themes, mentioned below:

  • Identity and integration in multicultural societies
  • Language-learning and intercultural skills post EU-referendum
  • European Year of Cultural Heritage

Examples and guidance will be provided but FLA/ELA Ambassadors are also encouraged to develop their own ideas and activities within these topics.

Project support

The FLA/ELA Ambassadors programme is carried out with the support of the Pädagogischer Austauschdienst, the British Council and the Goethe-Institut. You can find more information on the language assistants programme on their websites:
